PlatinumGames was founded by the merger of Seeds Inc. and Odd Inc. in October 2007. Seeds Inc. had been founded by Shinji Mikami, Atsushi Inaba, and Hideki Kamiya on August 1, 2006. Prior to establishing the company, the three worked for Capcom, and were key members of the Osaka-based Clover Studio, which specialized in making new and creative intellectual properties. They worked closely together developing popular Capcom franchises including Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Ōkami. Most of these titles received critical acclaim, but under-performed commercially, leading to Capcom’s decision to close the studio. Prior to the closure, the three founders had already left the studio to form their own company in mid-2006. In January 2006, the company expanded to 51 employees, including more former Capcom employees such as Masami Ueda, composer for the early Resident Evil games, and Mari Shimazaki, Ōkami’s artist. Yusuke Hashimoto and Kenji Saito, who would eventually become PlatinumGames’ directors, joined during its establishment period. The new company revealed its existence by launching its website in February 2007.
The game was developed using Softimage for creation of the game’s art, and a custom engine built to handle the art aesthetic and limitations of the Wii’s memory. The game’s sets are completely modeled with complex lighting features, but only normal maps are used to draw the game, avoiding the high-processing costs of light maps or layered textures. This allowed the game’s artists to have finer control of visibility and color balance in the game. Though the developers attempted to add reflection mapping into the game, they found it did not fit well with the comic-book style and dropped it. Explosions and other effects, normally created in other games using particle effects to achieve a factor of realism, were modeled with particles in MadWorld, but using specially-designed images to retain the comic book style.

Doolittle earned his second save of the postseason and the underdogs took the series lead, marking the first time in franchise history that the Nationals won a World Series game.
Thirty-six-year-old veteran second baseman Howie Kendrick was the surprise leader of the Nationals throughout their postseason run. The former Los Angeles Angel hit a two-run go-ahead home run in the National’s do-or-die National League Division Series Game 5 on the road against National League favorite Los Angeles Dodgers, who won 106 regular season games. Kendrick went on to win National League Championship Series MVP following his performance in the Nationals’ four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Astros were the MLB’s best regular season team, finishing with a final record of 107-55. Early in the season, the Nationals were often written off, sitting second-to-last in the National League on May 23 with a 19-31 record following a sweep at the hands of the New York Mets.

It’s a far cry from a regular season in which Judge’s 58 homers, 144 RBIs and 1.159 OPS made for one of the best performances by a right-handed hitter in history.
Giancarlo Stanton won the ALCS MVP award with four home runs and seven RBIs. This World Series marked the debut of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gleyber Torres, while Gerrit Cole, Juan Soto, and Anthony Rizzo returned to the World Series for the second time in their careers. Rizzo and Soto were seeking second career World Series championship, having won with the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals, respectively, while Cole was seeking his first championship after the Houston Astros lost in 2019. Aaron Boone, in his seventh season as a manager for the Yankees, was seeking his first World Series win as a manager. The Yankees were looking to win their league-leading 28th World Series championship title.
